Candidates for the potential sequel, Kid Nation 2, were required to submit a written application and a three-minute video. To be considered, candidates needed to be between the ages 8 and 15 at the time of application, hold United States citizenship and a passport, and grant the producers the right to conduct a background check. Semi-finalists would travel at their own expense to one of 11 regional interviews, with finalists flown to Los Angeles for the final selection. Applications were due by October 9, 2007.[55] Since Kid Nation was canceled on May 14, 2008, a second season is unlikely to air.
